When an engine is cold, emission control technologies do not work to their full potential. Engine and gearbox lubricants are also cold and more viscous, resulting in higher fuel consumption and greater emissions, and limiting their protection against wear. In colder climates, these challenges are even more significant. High temperature CrodaTherm™ bio-based phase change materials have the ability to store heat energy that is captured during a driving cycle. The heat energy stored can subsequently reduce the time it takes for an engine to fully warm up and can pre-heat engine fluids resulting in reduced emissions and wear.
