In Cabin Cooling with Start Stop

In-Cabin Cooling with Start-stop

A Start/Stop system will shut down the engine when stationary to save fuel but compromises the cabin cooling ability in the process. In warm ambient temperatures, climate control will keep the engine running when stationary, destroying the fuel saving benefits of the idle stop system. CrodaTherm™ bio-based  low or ambient temperature phase change materials can be used in so-called “cold storage evaporator” systems to deliver cool air when the engine is off. In such systems the PCM is cooled to a solid state when an engine is running. When stationary and idle stop is engaged the low temperature thermal energy stored in the PCM is used to cool the cabin, instead of engaging the air-conditioning system, saving fuel.
